Can pet food packaging really be sustainable? This is something we asked ourselves after walking down countless pet food isles filled with large bulky bags made from virgin plastics. Plastic pollution is a pressing environmental issue causing detrimental impacts to our planet.  Every year, an estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans. That is the same as dumping one New York City garbage truck of plastic into the ocean every minute of every day for an entire year (Ocean Conservancy)!

At Chippin, we believe that healthy and nutritious pet foods don’t have to come at the expense of the planet! This includes the packaging our products come in. Our "earth saving" eco-friendly packaging is made from 29% post consumer recycled (PCR) materials! This packaging decreases the amount of plastic pollution and microplastics that end up in our landfills, waterways, and drinking water. If you haven't seen our packaging already, if you look closely you can see little bumps that are not in "virgin" plastic packaging; that's little pieces of sterilized and repurposed milk cartons and yogurt cups. Also, it may crinkle/wrinkle more than standard food pouches; that's a good thing! We know that less than 9% of plastic is actually recycled and oftentimes recyclable materials will still go to landfill because there is no market for them. So we chose to ensure we could support the reuse of other materials that would otherwise create waste with our PCR food safe packaging.

For every product we sell, we are contributing a percentage towards vetted impact programs that will remove as much plastic waste from the environment as we use in our packaging and operations.
